Central Hokkaido

Odori Park

Odori Park, located in the center of Sapporo, features beautiful flowers and lots of greenery in every season, and is known as a place of relaxation where both citizens and tourists can spend their time as they please.

Sapporo Clock Tower

The Sapporo Clock Tower was built in 1878, and even now, more than 130 years later, it continues to keep accurate time. Every hour on the hour, the clear sound of its bell echoes out, announcing the time to the city, serving as a symbol of Sapporo.

Nijo Fish Market

Nijo Fish Market is a place where you can enjoy fresh seafood within walking distance of the city center. It is a popular tourist spot with many visitors, as it is easy to stop by on the way to other sightseeing spots and shopping.

Former Hokkaido Government Office Building (Akarenga Building)

This historical building is essential to understanding the history of Hokkaido's development. It is now open to the public including a gallery and archive introducing the history and culture of Hokkaido.

Mt. Moiwa & Sapporo Mt. Moiwa Ropeway

The view from the summit has been certified as one of Japan's top three night views, along with Nagasaki and Kobe. It is known as a spectacular spot from which you can see the lights of Sapporo, which sparkle like jewels.

Sapporo Central Wholesale Market Curb Market

The Curb Market is lined with many shops, from fresh fish shops to fruit and vegetable shops, dried goods shops, and salted and dried fish shops. Some shops open as early as 6am, and restaurants that make use of the market's ingredients are also popular.

Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observation Hill

The pastoral scenery typical of Hokkaido unfolds before your eyes with an amazing view over the magnificent Ishikari Plain. The statue of Dr. William S. Clark, the symbol of the observatory, is a popular photo spot.

Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade

This is known as one of Hokkaido's oldest shopping districts, with a history of nearly 150 years. The lily-of-the-valley lights and arcade covering installed during the Taisho and Showa periods still remain today, and the retro atmosphere is charming.

Hokkaido Shrine

This is revered as the patron god of Hokkaido, and many worshippers visit from within and outside the prefecture. The vast precincts, which cover an area of approximately 180,000 square meters, are rich in nature and are the perfect spot for a stroll.

Sapporo Maruyama Zoo

This was the first zoo to open in Hokkaido. The Polar Bear Pavilion, where you can observe polar bears swimming dynamically through an underwater tunnel, is a big hit with children.

Sapporo machibasya

You can take a horse-drawn carriage ride around the city of Sapporo.It is popular with tourists as it allows you to tour Sapporo's main spots while being rocked in a horse-drawn carriage.

Otaru Canal

This is known as an essential part of Hokkaido's history, and is now recognized as one of Otaru's most popular tourist attractions.

Ecological Theme Garden Eco-rin Village

This is a tourist ranch centered around the theme of “ecology”. It is popular because of its relaxing atmosphere, including the scenery of alpacas and llamas grazing, and the English-style gardens.

Sapporo Beer Museum

This is Japan's first museum dedicated to beer. You can learn about the history of the beer industry from the Kaitakushi Brewery to the present day.

Upopoy National Ainu Museum and Park

This is a national center that serves as a base for the revival, creation and development of Ainu culture. It is home to the National Ainu Museum, the National Ainu Park, and a memorial complex.

Noboribetsu Jigokudani

This is the remains of an explosion crater formed by volcanic activity. There are many fumaroles along the valley, and the bubbling and boiling landscape is a sight to behold.

Southern Hokkaido

Mt. Hakodate

One of Hakodate's most famous sightseeing spots, it is considered to be one of the three most beautiful night views in the world, and is also registered as a Japanese night view heritage site. We recommend using the ropeway to get to the top of the mountain.

Goryokaku Tower

This is known as a landmark of Hakodate. From the observation deck, you can see Mt. Hakodate, the Tsugaru Straits, and the star-shaped view of Fort Goryokaku.

Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse

This popular facility is lined with red brick warehouses that give it a nostalgic atmosphere. Many people, from locals to tourists, enjoy shopping here every day.

Matsumae Domain Residence

This is a theme park that recreates Matsumae, the northernmost castle town that was once said to be the largest city north of Sendai. Visitors can enjoy a trip back in time to the Edo period.

Kaiyomaru Memorial Museum

The Kaiyomaru, a warship of the former shogunate that grounded and sank off the coast of Esashi in 1868, has been restored to its original size. There are also panels explaining its turbulent history and exhibits of salvaged artifacts.

Northern Hokkaido

Asahikawa Asahiyama Zoo

It is known as Japan's northernmost zoo, and its “behavioral display” exhibits, which create comfortable spaces for the animals in accordance with their natural habitats and allow visitors to see the animals behaving naturally, are very popular.

Shirogane Blue Pond

A mysterious pond where the water appears blue. The withered larch trees create a fantastic atmosphere, and when there is no wind, the sky and trees are reflected on the water's surface, creating a mysterious scene.

Sounkyo

This is a scenic spot featuring the magnificent beauty of a canyon that has been created naturally over a long period of time. Visitors can see many waterfalls flowing down from the sheer cliffs.

Shirahige Waterfalls

These waterfalls got their name because they look like Shirahige (a white beard). Enjoy the splishing and splashing of the Biei River sparkling in cobalt blue up close.

Daisetsu Mori-no Garden

This is known as the best garden in the northern Hokkaido area, and you can enjoy a relaxing time with the approximately 900 varieties of beautiful plants.

These are known as some of Japan's largest wetlands and are also registered as a Ramsar Convention site. Enjoy an up-close experience of untouched nature, plants and animals, as well as magnificent scenery that you can't see anywhere else.

Lake Akan

This caldera lake was formed by an eruption about 150,000 years ago. It has its own unique ecosystem, and the Lake Akan Marimo algae balls, which are designated as a special natural monument, are a prime example of this.

Lake Mashu

This is one of Hokkaido's top tourist destinations, and has been selected as a Hokkaido Heritage site. It is famous for its unique blue color, known as “Mashu Blue”, and you can see the deep blue lake from the Lake Mashu Observatory.

Nusamai Bridge

This bridge is said to be one of the three most famous bridges in Hokkaido. The magnificent sunset against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean is also considered to be one of the three most beautiful sunsets in the world.

Washo Ichiba Market

This is a popular spot where you can enjoy the flavors of Kushiro. There are many shops selling seafood and other products, and the Kattedon rice bowl, which you can only enjoy at this market, is very popular.
